BENJI + EMMA WEDDING

Earlier this year I had the good fortune of being invited to shoot the wedding of Benj Wedrat and Emm Leigh Andrews in the hills near Cairns in North Queensland. I flew up from Brisbane with Beth Lane who came on as a second shooter and camera assistant. We spent the days leading up to the wedding exploring Cairns and scouting out some cool locations. On the morning of the wedding I met up with Benji at Sunrise at a spot he used to visit with Emm when they were growing up. Benji wanted to see the sunrise on his wedding day and figured he’d be too nervous to sleep in anyway. While we waited for the sun to break Benji quietly worked on his wedding speech (which brought the house down later that day). The sun came up and we got some cool shots but pretty soon the sun became obscured by clouds and not long after that a storm moved in bringing scattered showers and grey skies. The rain taunted Benji and Emm throughout the morning and hung around right up until the moment Emm arrived at the venue at which point the clouds parted and the sun started to shine. It was a really fun wedding to shoot, I met a lot of great people and it was really moving to see a couple so young but so in love. They were even keen to do a sunrise shoot the following morning which was really fun to shoot as well. I shot this wedding on 35mm and medium format film with my Canon EOS 1VHS and Mamiya 645 Pro TL with Kodak Portra 160/400/800, Fuji 400H and Superia 1600 and Ilford HP5 400 and Delta 3200. Processing and scans were done with Prolab in South Brisbane. I hope you like the shots. Continue reading
